Chrystia Freeland is a Canadian politician and journalist who is currently serving as the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance for Canada. Born on August 2, 1968, in Peace River, Alberta, Freeland was raised in a family of successful entrepreneurs, which instilled in her a strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit from a young age. She studied at Harvard University, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in History and Literature, and later went on to earn a Master’s degree in Slavonic Studies at Oxford University.
After completing her studies, Freeland embarked on a career in journalism, working for various news organizations such as The Financial Times, The Globe and Mail, and Reuters. She gained international recognition for her coverage of Russia and its transition to a market economy, which led to her first book, “Sale of the Century: Russia’s Wild Ride from Communism to Capitalism.” She later served as the editor of Thomson Reuters’ digital platform, where she was responsible for innovative coverage of the financial crisis of 2008. In 2010, Freeland left journalism to enter the world of politics, and in 2013 she was elected as a Member of Parliament for Toronto Centre.
